The young Italian Marina leaves behind the city where she was born, Trieste, to follow the Greek captain of the Chimera, Giannis, on an idyllic journey across the Mediterranean to Greece.

Marina grows up in a home her mother has turned into a place for sexual encounters. Traumatized, she devotes herself to her studies and earns a doctorate. When she loses her mother, she discovers an apologetic will that changes her life.
