Screen Two - Series 11 (1995)

Leo Doyle, in his mid-30s and single, is released into ceasefire Belfast after serving a life sentence for an IRA murder. Desperate for a new cause, he tries to rekindle an affair with his ex-fiancée.

Based on the novel by Jane Austen, this period movie tells the story of Anne Elliot, spinster daughter of a British nobleman. Anne is unduly influenced by her society-oriented family's preference for a gentleman match and turns away a love interest, only to cross paths with him again seven years later. The movie explores societal conventions around marriage and class in 19th century England.
