Group A 2017 Plot
The 2017 Rio de Janeiro Série A (Gold Series) parades took place between February 24th and 25th, 2017, at the Marquês de Sapucaí, with exclusive broadcast on TV Globo. The schools in Série A in 2017 were, in order of presentation: Acadêmicos do Sossego, Alegria da Zona Sul, Unidos do Viradouro, Império da Tijuca, União do Parque Curicica, Estácio de Sá, Acadêmicos de Santa Cruz, Acadêmicos da Rocinha, Acadêmicos do Cubango, Inocentes de Belford Roxo, Império Serrano, Unidos de Padre Miguel, Renascer de Jacarepaguá, and Unidos do Porto da Pedra. The grand champion was Império Serrano, with the theme "My backyard is bigger than the world," honoring the poet Manoel de Barros. The other schools that topped the rankings were Unidos de Padre Miguel, Unidos do Viradouro, Estácio de Sá, Unidos do Porto da Pedra, and Acadêmicos do Cubango, while the school relegated to Série B was União do Parque Curicica.

In homage to the actress Zezé Mota, the samba school from Niterói parades with the theme ‘Zezé Motta the Goddess of Ebony’.

'Vou Festejar with Beth Carvalho, the Godmother of Samba': this is the theme honoring the singer and songwriter from Rio de Janeiro.

With the theme ‘And Every Boy is a King’, Viradouro summons superheroes to defend its theme in the 2017 carnival.
4. Império da Tijuca - Full parade from 02/24/2017
'The Last of the Prophets' pays homage to Saint John the Baptist in the Catholic Church, and to Xangô, the orixá of justice and wisdom.
5. União do Parque Curicica - Full parade from 02/24/2017
The school opens its treasure chest of memories with the theme: ‘The important thing is to be happy and nothing else!’. And it recalls great moments.
6. Estácio de Sá - Full parade from 02/24/2017
'É! "The kid went down São Carlos, grabbed a dream, and left with Estácio!" is the name of the theme that pays homage to Gonzaguinha.
