TV Detectives From Different Shows Who Should Be Partners

What's a TV detective without a partner who challenges them, makes them better professionally, brings new expertise to the table, and fulfills their lives in ways they never knew they needed? Whether it's a wacky buddy cop dynamic or a tense match-up rife with complex conflict, the crime-solving duo has become one of the most entertaining TV genres around. We've come to know many small-screen sleuths over the years, and we have to say that most of them have been paired with near-perfect partners. But what if we switched things up a bit? Here are 9 pairs of TV detectives we would totally tune in to watch together, even though they hail from completely different series. 

Temperance Brennan ('Bones') & Olivia Benson ('Law & Order: SVU')

Forensic anthropology expert Bones has a scientific, emotionally-detached approach to her investigations. Benson is full of emotion, passion, and champions social justice when it comes to her cases. These two intelligent and devoted sleuths would not only balance each other out, they'd solve any crime that came their way. Plus, there's alliteration with their names -- perfect for coming up with show titles. 

Jessica Fletcher ('Murder, She Wrote') and Richard Castle ('Castle')

We would totally watch a show called "Castle and Fletch." Picture these lovable, charming crime novelists melding their minds for ultimate amateur detective domination. We think these two word-class personalities would be fast friends and excellent partners. Come to think of it, we'd call this show "The Write Stuff." 

Hercule Poirot ('Agatha Cristie's Poirot') and Miss Fisher ('Miss Fisher's Murder Mystery')

We didn't just pair these gumshoes together because they both rock fierce 1920s/1930s wardrobes. OK, we initially did. But upon further inspection we think the glamorous, worldly, and sharp-tongued Phryne Fisher would be the perfect complement to the eccentric and equally quick-witted Poirot. 

Odafin Tutuola ('Law and Order: SVU') and Sherlock ('Sherlock')

We would love to see self-proclaimed "high-functioning sociopath" Sherlock team up with tough-talking Fin. They're both no-nonsense, suppress their feelings (Sherlock has feelings, right?) and would focus on the matter at hand without getting distracted. We also think Sherlock could use a narcotics expert and great undercover man on his team. And we'd love to hear Fin's one-liner reactions to Sherlock's quirks. Only thing is they both have tempers. 

Jake Peralta ('Brooklyn Nine-Nine') and Elliott Stabler ('Law & Order: SVU')

We kinda feel like Stabler would want to strangle jokester Jake  in the beginning, but he would eventually loosen up and come to enjoy his antics. Hardened Stabes could really use some levity in his life (man, think of all the atrocities he's come across), and Peralta could help him love his job again. We're just not quite sure how he would feel about Jake's over-the-top undercover characters. 

Jane Tennison ('Prime Suspect') and Luther ('Luther')

Feminist icon and anti-hero Jane Tennison and passionate, obsessive Luther are two of the most persistent (and complicated) DCIs in the game. They would have intense moments of competitive head-butting, but there would no case unturned. Their's would be an epic love-hate professional partnership marked by mutual respect, dedication, and, you guessed it... friendship. 

Dale Cooper ('Twin Peaks') and Rust Cohle ('True Detective')

Sure, it'd be a really weird show, but we would totally tune in to see these two play off one another and solve complex crimes in creepy towns across America. Troubled downer Rust Cohle could benefit from Cooper's oddball sensibilities and simple, Buddhist optimism. They would both dole out nuggets of stoic wisdom, despite having very different life philosophies -- but that would keep things interesting! We're pretty sure they'd both enjoy a "damn fine cup of coffee," just put Rust's in a Big Hug mug. 

Veronica Mars ('Veronica Mars') and The Scooby Squad ('Scooby Doo')

Whip-smart and funny to boot, Veronica Mars could probably have some good times with Scooby and Mystery, Inc. She would stay above the wackiness, keep the gang on track, and would demand that Shaggy stop being such a paranoid coward. Honestly, more mysteries would probably get solved if she and Velma got out and started their own agency. 

John Watson ('Sherlock') and Joan Watson ('Elementary')

Two Watsons from separate adaptations of the Sherlock stories come together in a parallel universe to solve the world's toughest mysteries? Is your mind blown yet? We would love to see their empathetic investigative prowess in action on"Watson & Watson." Or would it just be "Watson"? Both Sherlocks wouldn't be too pleased with that...
