Julianne Moore has many incredible and versatile films under her belt -- from "Boogie Nights" to "The Kids Are Alright" -- it's hard to choose a favorite. One of her latest is George Clooney's "Suburbicon," which hits theaters October 27. Here are nine things you should know about the Oscar-winner before you head to the movies.

A Star is Born

Julianne Moore was born Julie Anne Smith in Fort Bragg, North Carolina, on December 3, 1960.

Army Brat

Julianne is a self-proclaimed "army brat." Her father was an army judge and her family moved 23 times before she turned 18.

Call Me Julie

There was already a Julie Moore and Julie Anne Moore in SAG, so she changed her name. “My dad’s name was Peter Moore Smith, and my mother’s name was Anne Smith, and I used both their names so I wouldn’t hurt anybody’s feelings,” she told The Hollywood Reporter. “I mean, everyone calls me Julie -- everyone," she explained.

Go Terriers

Moore studied theater at Boston University.

Soapy Start

Moore's big break came in 1985, when she began playing Frannie Hughes on the hit daytime drama, "As the World Turns." She won a Daytime Emmy award for her performance.

The Write Stuff

Julianne has a series of bestselling children's books about the character "Freckleface Strawberry." She was inspired by her own experience of being teased for having red hair and freckles as a kid.

Double Duty

She is one of a few on a short list of actors who have been nominated twice in one year at the Oscars. In 2002, she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for the "The Hours" and Best Actress for "Far From Heaven."

I'd Like to Thank the Academy...

Julianne has been nominated for an impressive five Oscars and finally picked up a Best Actress win in 2015 for "Still Alice."

The Dude Abides?

Julianne and Jeff Bridgestold MTV that they would be into a "Big Lebowski" sequel. "That would be fun," she said. "I'm always amazed by their work," she said of The Coen Brothers.
