'Game of Thrones' Season 8 Shows Sansa as 'Protective, Empowered' Leader of Winterfell
Boss Sansa > Dark Sansa > Every Other Sansa.
"Game of Thrones" Season 8 only has six episodes, so Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) may not have time to enjoy any lemon cakes. But she will get to enjoy owning her time as Winterfell's leader -- not that she's taking the reins at a great time. Season 7 ended with The Wall falling to the White Walkers.
Winterfell is the first major location on the march south into Westeros, so ... that could be bad. Plus, Queen Cersei is waging her own war on Team Stark/Targaryen, even though everyone has tried to make the case that now is the time for mankind to unite.
But still. Sansa is stepping up! Sophie Turner told Digital Spy the final season will finally show Sansa "owning her destiny" as the Lady of Winterfell. While Jon Snow (who is not really Jon Snow) is busy with Daenerys Targaryen, Sansa has been holding down Winterfell, even tag-teaming with younger sister Arya Stark to take down Sansa's former mentor, Petyr "Littlefinger" Baelish.
"She's used Littlefinger for all he has," Sophie Turner told Digital Spy. "As she said, 'Thank you for all your lessons'. He has nothing left to give her. So she is so empowered. She has a family behind her. She has Littlefinger, Cersei, Margaery, everyone's wisdom and teachings all behind her.
She's a real, true leader of Winterfell now. And that's where we first see her – as a very protective, empowered lady in charge. It's the first time you ever see her like that, and it's so amazing to see her like that – kind of owning her destiny. [...]
To be able to take her through the motions of being beaten down, and growing and eventually evolving – literally season by season, you see a huge change in her. And now we've got to the point where she's this steely, strong, manipulative, intelligent, kind, young woman, and it's completely the opposite of who she was at the beginning of the series."
Sansa has had one of the most remarkable transformations of the series. Turner appreciates that Sansa is a favorite for many fans going into Season 8, when Sansa used to be a least-favorite character -- especially in the first season.
"Game of Thrones" has finally finished filming, and Sophie Turner previously warned it would have more death than any previous season. We still don't have anything official from HBO. No teasers, no trailer, no photos, no poster, no premiere date. All of it should be coming soon, though, so get hyped and stay hyped.
