Emmys 2015: What Will Win Outstanding Comedy?

The 2015 Emmy Awards are almost here, so to get you prepared for TV's biggest night Moviefone will be revealing a countdown of editor predictions for the major categories leading up to September 20th's broadcast. Today's category is Outstanding Comedy.

What Will Win/What Should Win: “Louie.” More than ever before, the most recent season of “Louie” leaned heavily on the dramatic side of chronicling titular comedian’s trials as a single dad. But the season did deliver many a laugh, thanks to Louis C.K.’s unique brand of comedy. Every year, fans and critics alike say this show deserves the big award. This should be the year where the Academy makes it happen. -Phil Pirrello

What Will Win: "Modern Family.” “Modern Family” is as close to a lock as you can get — the show has won Emmys gold four years in a row. I guess we can assume the Television Academy loves dad jokes delivered by Ty Burrell and Sofia Vergara doing anything. So do we, TBH. And with last year being one of the funniest seasons yet, we predict another win for everyone’s favorite TV family. What Should Win: "Silicon Valley.” Mike Judge (as in "Office Space" Mike Judge) gets workplace humor. Even though we’ve never worked at an app start-up in a Silicon Valley living room, there’s something universally hilarious about inter-office politics, corporate buzz words, and tech industry types. Also, T.J. Miller is just the best (and he’s so right about big spoons and yogurt). If you’re not watching “Silicon Valley,” do yourself a favor and start. Now. -Alexis Taylor

Who Will Win: “Modern Family.” The Emmys just seem incapable of giving anyone else this award when “Modern Family” is on the nominee ballot. Who Should Win: “Veep.” Though Julia-Louis Dreyfus has deservedly taken home Best Comedy Actress, it’s time that the show got the recognition it deserves. The entire cast is delivering and the writers are killing it. While “Modern Family” still makes me laugh, they aren’t trying anything new with their comedy. It’s time for that show to be retired from even being able to be nominated for an Emmy. -Rachel Horner

What Will Win/What Should Win: "Transparent." We're feeling hopeful that the Television Academy will break from its five-year praise of "Modern Family" and recognize fresh, groundbreaking blood. How could they ignore this Amazon show's exceptional writing, acting, and directing? We have faith that the Pfeffermans will stay on top of the Pritchetts this year.  -Alana Altmann

What Will Win: “Modern Family.” My jaded side thinks it’s because the Television Academy is incapable of giving the Outstanding Comedy Series Emmy to any other show, but my benefit-of-the-doubt side thinks it’s because it is an expertly written and acted comedy that represents the pinnacle of what a broadcast network can do with a half-hour comedy. What Should Win: “Transparent.” It’s irreverent, funny, and completely different from anything else on TV -– maybe because it’s not on TV; it’s on Amazon. It’s a show that takes chances, and, while it certainly straddles the line between comedy and drama, humor is at its core. Something that pushes the boundary of what a comedy can be -- or what a show can be, really -- is deserving of some accolades.
