Guide to Movies You Need to See on Xmas Day

Moviefone
December 14, 2015 - 1 min read

Per usual, Hollywood is cramming in as many movies as they can for a Dec. 25 release. Here's a handy guide to the movies you should see after opening presents on Christmas Day.

'Concussion'

Will Smith goes the Serious Actor route for this hard-hitting drama about one doctor's struggle to expose, and heal, the head injuries NFL players suffer. Buzz has been relatively quiet in the weeks leading up to release, but early word on the film says the performances alone are worth the price of admission.

'Daddy's Home'

Fans of "The Other Guys?" This one's for you. Will Ferrell and Marky Mark reunite to make you LOL this holiday season. If you need a break from family drama 'round the Christmas tree, then this movie should do the trick.

'The Hateful Eight'

Tarantino's second western in a row is arguably his meanest (and bloodiest) film yet. When a surly bounty hunter (Kurt Russell) and his bounty find themselves snowed-in at a remote haberdashery, lots of gunfire and bleeding ensue -- just in time for the holidays.

'Joy'

If you ever wanted a biopic about the Miracle Mop and its creator (played here by Jennifer Lawrence), then best buy your tix now.

'Point Break'

And if you ever wanted a badly-acted remake of one of your favorite guilty pleasures from the '90s, then, um, buy your tix now I guess. And know that your friends will totally be judging you for opting to see this over "Star Wars." Or anything else, really.

'The Revenant'

Nothing says "Happy Holidays" like watching Leo get mauled by a bear and use a dead horse as a sleeping bag! From the director of "Birdman" comes a very gritty, very intense (but very joyless and labored) wilderness epic about revenge and the cost of satisfying it. So it's a comedy, clearly.
