Cartoon Characters of the '80s/'90s: Where Would They Be Now?

October 22, 2015 - 1 min read

If you're a child of the '80s or '90s, chances are you have a few animated TV friends who will stay close to your heart forever.  In our minds they grew up, just like us. Here's where 8 of our favorite cartoon characters from the '80s and '90s might just be now.

Bobby Generic, 'Bobby's World'

Bobby, known for his overactive imagination, put his inventive mind and colorful vision to good use by becoming a creative writing major at Oberlin College. He currently resides in Los Angeles with childhood GF Jackie, who he got back together with upon graduating school. He's an intern at Adult Swim and a Coffee Bean barista, but he would like everyone to know that his true passion is the space/rom-com/zombie concept script he's been working on.

Daria Morgendorffer, 'Daria'

Queen of sarcasm Daria started a feminist 'zine called "PessiMSt" her senior year with her BFF Jane. It started out as a total joke, but gained major steam when she began to post it online. She was recently offered seven figures to be acquired by a major media corporation, but she turned it down. She currently operates out of her home in Long Island City, Queens.

Ms. Frizzle, 'The Magic Schoolbus'

Ms. Frizzle became Mrs. Ruhle after she married the principal of her school in 2001. But we all know The Friz is an eccentric free spirit, so she quickly realized she couldn't be tied down. She pulled a "Ricki and the Flash"-type sitch and went back on tour with her band The Frizzlettes, but it turned out they were kind of terrible and she missed teaching. She started her own school, which ended up being crazy successful, considering she has a bus that is capable of doing things like shrinking down and going inside a human body to study anatomy.

Rocko, 'Rocko's Modern Life'

Rocko continues to deal with what his therapist calls a "Peter Pan syndrome," as he still works at Kind of a Lot O' Comics and lives in the same place in O-Town. Although he's perfectly content, he is working on overcoming his fears and tapping into his latent potential so he can live his best modern life.

Scrooge McDuck, 'DuckTales'

Scrooge raised his nephews to be hard workers, and they all attended elite colleges and earned MBAs. His wealth was not affected by the recession whatsoever, but his home was picketed by angry "Occupy Wall Street"-ers in 2011 after people found out he swam in a vault of gold coins nightly, despite never contributing to any charitable organizations and paying minimum wage to his employees.

Doug Funnie, 'Doug'

Doug married Patti Mayonnaise (duh) and they reside back in Bluffington with their two kids, where he contributes to the local paper by writing his "Quailman" comic. He plays banjo in a local band on Saturday nights. His pal "Skeeter" hit it big in the underground beat-boxing scene and eventually came up with a hip line of clubwear known as "HONK HONK," which sells nationwide. Doug still rocks normcore sweatervests though.

Tommy Pickles, 'Rugrats'

A natural leader, Tommy fell back in love with filmmaking in high school and took things to the next level by studying directing at NYU. He and his fiance, Kimi Finster, recently moved to an industrial loft in Detroit to make a documentary about the town's economy and burgeoning arts scene. Chuckie lives in their guest room.

Baloo von Bruinwald XIII, 'TaleSpin'

Baloo came into tons of money, being the heir to a substantial estate, but he never stopped flying. He gave up the cargo game and became a traveling Air Show pilot, exploring the world beyond Cape Suzette. He's what my grandmother might call an eternal bachelor.
