Anthony Michael Hall's 5 Favorite Teen Angst Movies

Moviefone
August 23, 2016 - 1 min read

Anthony Michael Hall is best known for his roles in classics like "The Breakfast Club," "Edward Scissorhands," and "Weird Science." Now, he's heading back to high school in the new thriller "Natural Selection, out August 26th. To celebrate his new film, Hall shared his five favorite movies centered on -- what else? -- teenage angst. He's basically an expert.

'Rushmore' (1998)

"One of my favorites by the great Wes Anderson. Jason Schwartzman is Max Fischer, a horrible student but the king of all extracurricular activities at Rushmore. Max and Herman Blume (Bill Murray) collide as they compete for the attention and affection of Miss Cross, a teacher at Rushmore Academy."

'Me and Earl and the Dying Girl' (2015)

"I love this film. It's very funny and has a lot of heart. On-the-money performances from the young cast -- Thomas Mann, Olivia Cooke, and RJ Cyler -- but the real star of the film is the filmmaker Alfonso Rejon-Gomez."

'Rebel Without a Cause' (1955)

"James Dean personifies screen cool as Jim Stark, in this 1950's classic film by Nicholas Ray. The second of only three films that Dean starred in before he died tragically in his Porsche at the age of 24. Gone too soon."

'Napoleon Dynamite' (2004)

"Jon Heder's performance as Napoleon always cracks me up.  This indie is a beautiful oddity, ranking with David Lynch's 'Eraserhead' in my book."

'Fast Times at Ridgemont High' (1982)

"This 1980 comedy from director Amy Heckerling is a classic. Sean Penn gives a brilliant comedic performance as your favorite high-school burnout: underachieving surfer Spicoli. Penn steals every scene and the movie. High-ly recommended. You will laugh your ass off if you've never seen it. Which you probably have."

Be sure to check out "Natural Selection," which hits theaters and is available on VOD and Digital HD starting Friday, August 26.
