19 Mistakes You Never Noticed in Huge '80s Movies

Tim Hayne
July 14, 2016 - 1 min read

Ah, the '80s. The "me" decade was full of great movies -- tons of classics that we re-watch again and again (and sometimes reboot). But how closely were you watching, really? Some eagle-eyed movie fans spotted these mistakes, full of continuity errors, crew members on camera, and some special effects that just weren't special enough. As always, all photos are courtesy of MovieMistakes.com.

'Raiders of the Lost Ark' (1981)

Oh, hey random member of the film crew. You probably shouldn't be standing there.

'The Shining' (1980)

As Jack Torrance makes his way to The Overlook Hotel at the beginning of the movie, the shadow of the helicopter being used to take the aerial shots can be seen in the frame.

'Back to the Future' (1985)

Early in the movie, when Einstein is strapped in the DeLorean, the yellow time circuits reads the month as "10" rather than "Oct." Later, we see the numbers switch to letters to identify the month.

'Commando' (1985)

They must've had miraculously self-healing cars back in the '80s, because that's the only thing that can explain this blatant continuity error.

'Ghostbusters' (1984)

Well, there's definitely something strange in this neighborhood, since one of the newspapers shown in the middle of the movie actually has a picture of the team crossing streams, which doesn't happen until the very the end. That's some top-notch reporting.

'The Princess Bride' (1987)

Either Robin Wright had a serious facial hair problem in the '80s, or that was a very obvious stuntman falling down the hill in her place.

'They Live' (1988)

That knee pad is 100% forgiven because the fight scene is one that has to be seen to be believed.

'Goonies' (1985)

Well, maybe the crooks changed their minds and thought $100 bills would be too obvious.

'Lethal Weapon' (1987)

Looks like Murtaugh and Riggs's next case should involve tracking down the company making those miraculously self-repairing handcuffs.

'The Terminator' (1984)

Everyone knows Terminators are terrible with directions.

'Full Metal Jacket' (1987)

Maybe he's just a fast healer?

'Stand by Me' (1986)

Wanna see a missing necklace? When Teddy throws his coin in the air, he's not wearing a necklace, but when he catches it the dog tag necklace appears.

'Dirty Dancing' (1987)

"Dirty Dancing" could've been a whole lot dirtier if that sheet hadn't magically moved itself up between shots.

'Fast Times at Ridgemont High' (1982)

Times appeared to be moving so fast at Ridgemont High that the filmmakers couldn't stop to make sure you couldn't see a crew member's reflection.

'Aliens' (1986)

In space, no one can hear you scream ... but we could see the giant hole cut in the floor so that Bishop could appear cut in half.

'Batman' (1989)

When the Joker's henchmen are trashing the art museum, one puts painted handprints all over a portrait. Later, when the Joker walks by, the handprints are gone. Guess he didn't want to be caught red-handed. Sigh.

'Die Hard' (1988)

We'd say he needs glasses, but he's already wearing them.

'Blade Runner' (1982)

When Zhora attacks Deckard, she isn't wearing any lipstick. After she's killed, however, she's wearing a bright shade of red.

'National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation' (1989)

Earlier, Clark goes nuts and cuts off the baluster. However, not too long after it reappears when the family is attacked by the squirrel. It's a Christmas miracle!
