19 Best TV Shows to Binge Over the Holidays, Ranked by Time Commitment

Sharon Knolle
December 5, 2018 - 1 min read

Got some free time over the holidays? Then queue up these great shows on Netflix and Hulu.

'Ghoul' (3 Episodes)

A political detainee is not what he seems in this nail-biting Indian series. Don't watch alone! (On Netflix)

'The Kominsky Method' (8 Episodes, 3.5 hours)

Michael Douglas plays acting coach (and former actor) Sandy Kominsky and Alan Arkin his longtime agent, Norman Newlander, in this new series from Chuck Lorre. Love watching these two Oscar winners bounce off each other. (On Netflix)

'Disenchanted' (10 Episodes, 5 hours)

Matt Groening's first new series in decades is eminently binge-able with eps checking in at less than 30 minutes each. (On Netflix)

'She-Ra' (13 episodes, 5.5 hours)

Our favorite animated sword-wielding princess is back! Don't miss her adventures, or the Princess Prom! (On Netflix)

'Dogs' (6 Episodes)

This heart-warming series about dogs is only six episodes: That's less than six hours spent with man (and woman)'s best friends! (On Netflix)

'Bodyguard' (6 Episodes)

Richard Madden (aka Robb Stark) is a war veteran assigned to protect a controversial politician (Keeley Hawes of "MI-5"), who was the chief proponent of the war he fought in. Awkward and tense as hell. (On Netflix)

'She's Gotta Have It' (10 Episodes, 6 hours)

Spike Lee revisits his '80s film about a woman juggling three lovers. DeWanda Wise ("Underground") stars as Nola Darling. (On Netflix)

'River' (6 Episodes)

Stellan Skarsgård ("Thor") stars as Detective Inspector John River, who's haunted by visions of his recently murdered colleague in this moving thriller. Nicola Walker ("MI-5") co-stars. (On Netflix)

'11.22.63' (8 Episodes)

In this underrated series based on the Stephen King novel, James Franco stars as a man who travels back to 1963 to prevent the assassination of JFK. Things don't go as planned, of course. (On Hulu)

'Tabula Rasa' (9 Episodes)

This intense (and emotionally-charged) psychological thriller from Belgium follows a young woman with amnesia struggling to clear her name (and rebuild her memory) when she becomes a key suspect in a missing persons case. (On Netflix)

'American Vandal' (16 Episodes, 9 hours)

Both seasons of this hilarious send-up of true crime docs can be consumed in less than a day. Word. (On Netflix)

'The Haunting of Hill House' (10 Episodes)

This excellent, addictive horror series is a must-watch. And at only ten episodes, you can easily binge it in a weekend. Or even a day. (Who needs sleep?) (On Netflix)

'Dark' (10 Episodes)

This German series, which centers on the disappearance of several boys in a small town, lives up to its title. With quality twists and slow-burn tension, we recommended this show for fans of "Lost" and "Stranger Things." (On Netflix)

'Mindhunter' (10 Episodes)

If you've got the stomach for it, you can binge all of David Fincher's series about the FBI's first serial killer profilers in less than a day. (On Netflix)

'The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina' (10 Episodes)

Not your '90s TV witch, Sabrina (Kiernan Shipka) is dabbling in much darker magic in this hit Netflix series. Grab your familiar and join the circle. (On Netflix)

'Castle Rock' (10 Episodes)

The mythical town created by Stephen King is home to a prison with a very unusual prisoner (Bill Skarsgard), a lawyer with a haunted past (Andre Holland), and a whole lot of secrets. (On Hulu)

'The Staircase' (13 Episodes)

Did a man push his wife down a staircase or was it a terrible accident? That's the question examined in this stellar true-crime series. (On Netflix)

'Sherlock' (13 Episodes, 20 hrs)

Still haven't watched "Sherlock"? You can watch all four series of the BBC hit in one go! They're all about an hour-and-a-half each. (On Netflix)

'The Handmaid's Tale (23 episodes)

Looking for a hardcore binge? Then mainline both seasons of this intense, award-winning dystopian drama. You might want to break it up with some lighter fare with less people getting stoned to death. (On Hulu)
