11 Things You (Probably) Didn't Know About Tom Holland

Tom Holland is about to be catapulted to superstardom. The 21-year-old Brit is taking on the iconic role of Peter Parker in "Spider-Man: Homecoming," which hits theaters July 7. But before the young actor kicked it with the Avengers, he was a musical theater star.  Get to know the newest neighborhood Spider-Man. Here are 11 Tom Holland facts you should know.

1. British Born

Tom Holland was born on June 1, 1996 in Kingston Upon Thames, Surrey, England.

2. Good Genes

Tom's father, Dominic Holland, made a name for himself as broadcaster, comedian, and author. His mother, Nicola Frost, is a photographer.

3. Big Bro

Tom is the eldest of three younger brothers named Sam, Harry, and Patrick.

4. Class Act

Holland attended the famous BRIT School for Performing Arts & Technology. Other notable BRIT alums include Adele, Amy Winehouse, Jessie J, Kate Nash, and Ashley Madekwe.

5. West End Star

After eight auditions and two years of training, Holland made his theatrical debut in "Billy Elliot the Musical" back in June of 2008. Initially, he portrayed Billy's best friend and later went on to wow audiences in the title role.

6. Fancy Footwork

Tom was discovered by award-winning choreographer Lynne Page while taking hip hop dance classes at Nifty Feet studio in Wimbledon, England.

7. Big Break

Tom's breakout role was in 2012's "The Impossible," alongside Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor. He earned a Breakthrough Actor award from the National Board of Review and won Young British Performer of the Year at the London Film Critics Circle Awards. He was also nominated for Best Young Actor/Actress at the Critics Choice Awards.

8. Huge Honor

Holland took home the EE Rising Star award at the 2017 BAFTA Film Awards. Past recipients include Tom Hardy, John Boyega, and Kristen Stewart.

9. Spidey Sense

The 21-year-old beat out actors like Asa Butterfield and Nat Wolff when he landed the role of Spider-Man. He's the youngest big screen Peter Parker yet (it makes sense given "Spider-Man: Homecoming's" emphasis on high school life).

10. Puppy Love

Holland has a ridiculously cute grey pit bull named Tessa, who recently accompanied him to a press event!

11. Committed to the Craft

To prepare for his role in "Spider-Man: Homecoming," Holland went undercover with a fake name and accent at a Bronx high school for a few days.
